Although I can confidently say that I am brilliant at adhering to my dairy/gluten free diet, there is one thing which I have real issues resisting.
CHOCOLATE.
I love the stuff. Although there are some pretty good dairy/gluten free alternatives out there, nothing hits the spot quite like a bar of Cadbury's. Not a day goes by I miss that taste... But luckily, possessing the culinary inclination I do, I always manage to whip up some form of home-made alternative in the kitchen that quells my cravings for another day. Or hour.
Today, I'd like to share with you an incredibly simple recipe for chocolate mousse. Of course, it's 100% gluten, sugar & dairy free, but also boasts being totally grain-free, and potentially vegan (depending on your sweetener of choice - honey obviously not being vegan). It's perfect for a really simple and impressive dinner party dessert, a simple snack, or even... Brace yourself... Breakfast. Mwahahaha. I need to get someting off my chest... I am guilty of indulging in various conventional dessert foods for breakfast, but only due to the fact that they are actually healthy and NEVER contain refined sugar. So, readers, screw society's "rules" for mealtimes, and eat chocolate mousse for breakfast, I say!

INGREDIENTS:
METHOD
- 1 ripe avocado
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- Honey/maple syrup/agave to taste
- a pinch of salt
METHOD
- Scoop the flesh out of your avocado and mash it up in a bowl. Make sure you get all the lumps out, otherwise you run the risk of your mousse tasting slightly "avocadoey" later on.
- Add in your cocoa powder and mix it thoroughly.
- Add your sweetener - I used honey, since the consistency worked best for me, but I'm sure maple syrup or agave would be just fine.
- Add a tiny bit of salt. There's logic behind this - for some reason, just a slight amount of salt helps to counteract the avocado taste, if it even bothers you.
- Serve and enjoy! As you can see from the photos, I topped mine with some strawberries and flaked almonds. Yum!
